Quite a mild and pleasant day for this week's seniors event which was a 1-2-3 Stableford with teams of three. Also interesting to see the changes starting to take place on the course with all the new mounding and new tees going in - HUGE amounts of soil everywhere!!! Looking forward to see how it all progresses.
Today's winning team with an excellent score of 77pts were Sam Whiting, Brian Grace & Ofer Ben-David. Runners-up on 72pts were Jim Green, Richard Cross & Chris Piper followed by Malcolm Passey, Roy Whiting & Liz Evans just one point further back.

Seniors Bowmaker Stableford
Not the best of weather to be out on the course today, but the hardy seniors were still out there and most completed their rounds today - well done!!! Today's competition was a Bowmaker Stableford (teams of three with the best two scores to count on each hole) which was reduced to 15 holes only because of the course improvement work taking place this week. Twelve teams competed for the prizes.
The winners with an impressive score of 67pts were Colin Cox, Barry Heath & John Baron (a token senior for the day!). Runners-up on 62pts were Ken Croucher, Roy Whiting & Sam Whiting followed by Bob Stevenson, Mike Workman & Derrick Perrin two points further back.

Course update ...
We are keen to keep you as up to date as we can with developments on site.
For those who have been playing during the last ten days or so, you will have noticed work has slowed down a little. The very wet weather of the week before had caused the ground conditions to deteriorate to the point where work was very difficult. We have been able to complete some work but we are slightly behind schedule and because of this, we are planning increased activity this week, using slightly different routes to those originally planned. Unfortunately, this will mean that in order to ensure complete safety for golfers, play will not be possible on the 1st, 2nd and 9th at certain times and rather than chop and change all week, we are proposing to use a composite course of 15 holes from Monday for the remainder of the week. This will involve starting on the 10th tee, then playing in the following order 10th, 11th, 7th, 8th, 3rd, 4th, 5th 6th, 12th, then 13th – 18th.
I know the Seniors have a Bowmaker planned on Wednesday and they will arrange a plan for this event and unfortunately we will have to postpone the midweek comps planned for Thursday/Friday.
Apologies for this unintended disruption, but this is precisely why we hope members will take the opportunity to come and play at Newbury & Crookham. There are very few tee bookings at N&C at this time of year and the course will be fairly free all week, although I would still advise ringing ahead on 01635 31201, just to ensure you get the quietest possible game.
On a positive note, we are delighted with the work that has been completed so far and although disruptive this week, the work being carried out now will help speed up the improvement process.
Ed Richardson.

Mixed Open
The Racecourse welcomed visitors from six different golf clubs (Bishopswood, Bramshott Hill, Deanwood Park, Donnington Grove, Hamptworth and Newbury & Crookham who are now managing the racecourse golf club) to play in their annual Mixed Open today. A good field of 44 players took part in this four-ball better-ball Stableford competition which was played in relatively calm but overcast conditions.
The winning team with an excellent score of 46pts were Paul Seymour (Donnington Grove) and Allison Holmes (Newbury Racecourse). Runners-up on 41pts were Jason Allum (NRGC) and Pam Best (Bishopswood) followed by Richard & Cilla Osgood (Newbury & Crookham) who just pipped John Butcher (NRGC) & Sian Soanes (NRGC) on countback after both teams returned 39pts. Full result - click here.
The two nearest-the-pins were won by Judy Willson (NRGC) on the 6th hole and Lorraine Storey (Donnington Grove) on the 16th. Two players shared the 2's competition; Dave Warwick (NRGC) on the 11th, and Paul Seymour (Donnington Grove) on the 14th.
Afterwards, the competitors enjoyed an excellent meal prepared by the Wessex. The raffle and 2's pool raised £310 for our Charity of the Day which was the DEC Philippines Typhoon Appeal.
Special thanks to Libby, Paul, Sian and the rest of the committee for their hard work in organising this competition and to all the players for supporting the event and a very worthwhile cause.

November Greensomes
An unpleasant day today weather-wise. A bit chilly for the early starters and plenty of rain to test the resolve of all the competitors. Well done to all for completing their rounds. No misery on the scoring front though with some excellent totals being returned in this greensomes Stableford competition.
The winners today with a super score of 42pts were Jason Allum & Geoff Denner. The next four places were all decided on count-back all with scores of 39pts. Kim Richardson & Allison Holmes grabbed the runners-up spot from Rowland Barnfield & Steve Simm, Roy & Sam Whiting and Jon Miller & Mark Allen. Full result - click here.
This was the last event of the year with points counting towards the individual Order of Merit. Sian Soanes managed to hang on to her lead to win the Order of Merit with a total of 58pts just four ahead of runner-up John Day. Final points standings - click here.

Seniors November Medal
Not very pleasant conditions for the Seniors Medal yesterday which probably explains the relatively low turn out and the relatively high scoring!! What's going on!?!? It's usually always decent weather for the "wrinklies"!! However, well done to the 21 players who braved the elements - even if they didn't all manage to finish, and to Sam Whiting - the only senior lady to compete in the competition.
The winner on count-back was Roy Whiting with a nett 74. Richard Aldred was runner-up on the same score and the lowest gross of the day (86). Third place went to Chris Moore, also on count-back.
Full result - click here.
The high scoring meant that the competition was calculated as "Reductions Only" and, with no 2's recorded, the two's pool will roll over to the December Medal.

November Medal
Fifteen players (9 men and 6 ladies) for this month's medal which was the first of the four Winter Stableford Medals. There was one division for the men and, as there were six ladies, a separate ladies medal (for a change!!). It looks like the players also enjoyed the best of the weekend weather as well.
In the men's competition, Phil Knight was the outright winner with an excellent 39pts. The in-form John Baron was runner-up just ahead of Paul Hickey on count-back after both recorded 38pts each.
Full result - click here.
In the ladies division, Kim Richardson was the clear victor with another excellent 39pts. Tina Hawkins was runner-up closely followed by Sian Soanes. Full result - click here.
Just one 2 recorded this week from Chris Moore at the tricky 6th. Chris scoops the two's pool which was also a roll-over from last month!!!
Once again we are running a Winter Medal Aggregate competition for the four winter medals in Nov, Dec, Jan & Feb. The best three nett score from these four medals will win the prize. You must complete at least three medals to have a chance of winning. The prize is free entry to a number of next year's competitions - details to follow. Well worth winning, so make sure you enter the winter medals!!!
