Seniors Stableford

The weather forecast for today was strong winds and heavy rain. With that in mind, a number of players decided to give it a miss and so the few that did risk it just played a 9-hole Stableford. As it turned out, although it was windy, the rain didn't materialise until mid to late afternoon when everything was done and dusted!!!!
Of the 8 that played, Roy Whiting was top scorer over the 9 holes with 15pts. Raymond Bilton was second scoring 13pts followed by Geoff Denner and Sam Whiting both on 12pts.

July Medal

The good weather continues with more warm conditions for this month's medal. The course is really playing hard and fast just like a links course. Everyone is hitting the ball a long way, but the trick is to stop it when it gets to that little green bit at the other end!!!!

Just eleven players today (9 men and 2 ladies) played in one mixed division. The winner with a fine 69 was Mike Miller. Fresh from her excellent performance at the Inter Club Trophy, Dianne McIntyre was the runner-up just edging out Steve Cobb (lowest gross - 79) on count-back after both netted scores of 71.

Full result - click here.

No two's recorded today (although there were plenty of claims for "nearly a two"!!!), so the two's pool will roll over to next month's medal. A good incentive to enter!!

After five summer medals, the Owen Millennium Trophy and Summer Medal Aggregate competitions are taking shape. The latest standings can be viewed by clicking the links below.

Alan Owen

Sadly I have to report that Alan Owen passed away this morning.  He was another of the stalwarts of the club and was part of the seniors from quite early on.  He was taken into hospital in Reading about two weeks ago, but the family managed to get him back to the Rainbow room in West Berkshire Hospital for his last few days.  Stephen (one of his sons, and a former member of NRGC) said he looked through the newspaper at the golf results each week, however poorly he felt.

I will always remember his happy smile as he chugged along in the buggy - not caring if his golf was not the best, but just enjoying being out there.

Our thoughts go out to all his family at this sad time.
Rest in Peace Alan.

Inter Club Challenge Trophy

The hastily gathered team spent an enjoyable and very hot day at Deanwood, representing NRGC in the Inter Club Challenge Trophy.

We were not in the prizes, however, Dianne McIntyre's hard earned 36 pts, nearly got her the individual ladies trophy, she was only 2 pts away.  Dianne was convinced I had made the wrong choice, putting her in the individual ladies spot, but she did us proud.  Well done Dianne.

The men's pairing of Jason Allum and Michael Miller proved a success with their 38 pts, however the winning score in their category was a massive 49 pts (by the home team).  The mixed pairing of Linda and Steve Vale enjoyed a fantastic front 9, however, faded just a little in the second half to miss out on the individual trophy in their category.   Singleton male, Allan Trotman was playing his second day in the scorching heat, which affected his game, and the ladies pairing of Jan and Judy…… well, we got round!!!  Many thanks Jan for putting up with my erratic play, you possibly could have done better on your own!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would like to say a big thank you to all the team - you are all winners in my book.
