Atrocious weather this morning for the seniors as they played their Waltz 123 Stableford competition and only half the teams were able to complete their rounds.
The winners were decided on count-back with Richard Aldred, Colin Cox & Mike Pritchard just edging out Linda Vale, Brian Grace & Raymond Bilton after both teams scored 60pts. Third place on 56pts went to Chris Piper, Mike Workman & Derrick Perrin.

January Medal

The rescheduled January Stableford Medal was played today in much better conditions - even some sunshine thrown in for good measure!! A small field of just fifteen players but just enough to squeeze in two mixed divisions.
In division 1 Andrew Mead continued his good form by finishing top on 35pts. The runner-up spot was decided on count-back with Jeremy Twaits just edging out John Butcher after both recorded 31pts. Full result -- click here.
In division 2 senior stalwart Brian Grace topped the list with 30pts followed by Ken Kenyon (29pts) and Mike Miller (28pts). Full result - click here.

No two's were recorded this time so any monies will roll over to the February medal next week.

This is the third out of the four winter Stableford medals that count towards the Winter Medal Aggregate (best 3 Stableford scores from the 4 winter Stableford medals). It couldn't be closer with one medal to go. John Butcher, Jeremy Twaits and Mike Miller are all tied at the top on 95pts. Latest standings - click here. (Only those who have played 3 winter medals are shown).

Seniors Fourball Stableford

An unusually small field for this weeks seniors fourball Stableford with only seven teams competing (and Les Eden was in two teams!!!). There was a buggy ban and the 1st/10th hole was closed due to flooding, so that probably explains a lot. The competition went ahead anyway played over sixteen holes.
The winners were John Day & Stephen Vale who amassed 31pts over the 16 holes. Rod Spring & Steve Thompson claimed the runners-up prize with 27pts followed by Richard Cross and Roy Whiting in third place just one point further back.

Wendy Seymour Texas Scramble

The Wendy Seymour Texas Scramble was hosted at the racecourse yesterday with fourteen teams of 3 taking part. Nice to see some old friends returning to the racecourse to support this event. The conditions were tough with a very cold south-westerly wind blowing hard across the course, but some of the scoring was fantastic!!
The winning team (appropriately) were Steve Bonner, Malcolm Bonner & Paul Seymour with an excellent score of 53.2 (gross 60). Second place went to Dan Seymour, Charlie Butler & Scott Vodkins on 55.0 (gross 61) followed by Roy Martinez, Ian Martinez & Mike Smith on 56.8 (gross 66).

After the golf was the prize giving and a raffle which raised over £200 for the Rarer Cancers Foundation. Well done to Sian Soanes who organised the event on behalf of Paul and thanks to all who joined in on the day and made this event a huge success.

January update

NEWBURY & CROOKHAM GOLF CLUB

To all our Racecourse Section Members, Happy New Year!

I hope that you have all thoroughly enjoyed your Christmas break and are raring to get back into playing lots of golf.

Just a few items from me that will hopefully answer some of the questions that I have been asked.

RACING BADGES
It is with great pleasure that we can confirm that for those who have been Racecourse Section members since at least 2012, for 2015 you will once again be eligible for your free Racing Badge. We have worked very hard with the Racecourse to ensure that this entitlement will continue and we are really pleased that this has been possible to achieve. I am working with the Racecourse this week and hope to have the badges delivered to me at Nuffield Reception this weekend so they will be available for collection from Monday 12th January.

MEDAL 3RD JANUARY
Please note that this medal has been rearranged from 3rd January to 24th January.

PRESENTATION EVENING
This is being held at Crookham Club house at 7pm on Saturday 7th February. All are welcome and please obtain your tickets from either myself or a Committee Member.

AGM
You are all welcome to attend the Racecourse Section’s AGM being held at the Crookham Club house on Wednesday 25th February at 7pm. This is an opportunity to have your say in how the section is run. Many Committee members have worked really hard to continue golfing activities at the racecourse and please consider putting yourself forward to help. Further details and paperwork for the AGM will follow in early February but please feel free to speak to either myself or a Committee member if you would be kind enough to help.

Look forward to seeing you soon and remember to contact me if you have any queries.

Regards,

Libby Softley, Racecourse Operations Manager
