Senior Club Championship update

As reported yesterday, the men's senior club championship had to be decided by a play-off after Richard Aldred and Paul Tebbutt tied for first place. Due to circumstances, the play-off could not be played immediately after the event so was postponed until this morning.
The two-hole aggregate play-off was played over the 1st and 9th holes and the winner by a narrow margin after the two holes was Paul Tebbutt.

Seniors Club Championships

This week was the second and final round of the Ladies and Men's Senior Club Championships. Conditions were excellent and again our thanks to the green keepers for preparing the course in great condition.

In the Ladies competition, congratulations to Linda Vale who came out on top in both the gross and nett categories, but as the rules say you can only win one prize in this event, the nett prize goes to Jan Hinks. For full details click on the links below.

In the men's gross competition, there was a tie for first place between Richard Aldred and Paul Tebbutt which meant a play-off! Unfortunately, we were unable to complete the play-off today, so this has been scheduled for tomorrow morning. Watch this space for more news!!
In the men's nett competition, John Clark was the victor on 153 just one stroke ahead of first round leader Ted Fitzsimons. Harry Jackson was third on 155. For full details - click here.

Tuesday Evening League - W6

More glorious weather for week 6 of the Tuesday Evening League (albeit a bit windy!!). Fourteen players this week played in this 9-hole Stableford competition.
The best individual score this evening was from Dean Butler on 21pts who wins the weekly prize for the second time!! Runner-up was Dave Warwick with 20pts closely followed by Cilla Osgood just one point further back. We're nearly at the point where the "Best 7" scoreboard will come into it's own!

Match at Bishopswood

A nice afternoon was had by all as Bishopswood welcomed Newbury Racecourse for a mixed four ball match.
The weather was pleasant and the course looked in beautiful condition.
In the end Bishopswood prevailed with a score of 4 to 1 with some excellent golf on their home course. Paul Hickey and Diane Mcintyre played very well to secure the only point for the Racecourse.

We look forward to a return match next year at the Racecourse

Message from Paul Hickey

I need to announce that as from June 20th, I will be leaving my post as Club Captain at the Racecourse.I am moving home to East Sussex which sadly is a little too far to travel to play golf regularly at the Racecourse.
I have carried out the Captains duties for around about 9 months now working alongside Sian Soanes the Lady Captain and the Club Committee. I have been a member of this club for a few years now and have really enjoyed playing social and competition golf with the most fantastic group of people.
I thank all the members for making this club a thoroughly enjoyable place to come and play golf and long may it continue.
I am very thankful for being able to work with and be supported by a hardworking dedicated group of people who make up the committee and I thank them for helping me with my duties as Captain over the time I have been doing it.
At the beginning of my Captaincy we were still playing the old 18 hole layout just prior to all the new changes starting and the move to a 9 hole layout in the middle of the racecourse.
We had Captains Drive in, a Mixed Open and a few other events leading up to the Last Hurrah ( last day on the old 18 hole layout) in January.
During that time we raised fantastic amounts of money which went to a number of good causes including rarer cancers and GOSH.
We also had a very enjoyable presentation evening during February just prior to the old clubhouse closing.
Having now moved to a 9 hole layout and into Nuffield Health as a base we move on to the next stage in this clubs history.
For that I would also like to thank Ed Richardson and his team for all their efforts and determination despite much red tape in getting the club to where it is now and in the future.
I really wish everyone well for the future and look forward to coming back and playing the course occasionally.
Lastly I would like to thank Dean Butler for taking over from me until the end of the year.
Dean is a well respected Member and I am sure members will be really pleased that Dean has taken the role on.
I am sure you will all support him as much as you did me.
My last event as a member will be the Mixed Pairs match at Bishopswood on Sunday 15 June 2014.
I hope I get an invite to the odd non member event and the next presentation evening.

Play good golf everyone and Goodbye,
Paul Hickey

Seniors Club Championships - Round 1

Round one today for the Seniors Club Championship. Twenty-five men and three ladies took part in today's event in beautiful weather. With the course in excellent condition (our thanks to the green staff for that), all was set fair for some good scoring ... but it never happened?!?! Nobody played to their handicap and consequently both the ladies and men's competitions were calculated as "reductions only".

In the men's event Paul Tebbutt leads the way in the gross category closely followed by Brian Faithfull, Harry Jackson and John Butcher. Ted Fitzsimons is at the top in the nett competition just ahead of Harry Jackson and John Clark. For full details - click on the links below:

In the ladies competition, Linda Vale is the current leader in both Gross and Nett categories followed by Jan Hinks and Sandy Deacon. For full details - click on the links below:

All to play for in round 2 on Wednesday 18th June.
