January Fourball

Twenty-four pairings played in the January Fourball today. This is usually played from the white tees for men, but as most of the white tees are recovering at the moment, the men played from the yellow tees, which meant the ladies in the competition had an adjustment of +1 on their handicaps. Despite the course still playing long at the moment, the scores were excellent.
The outright winners today were Fay Unsworth and Shey Walder with a great score of 42 points. To make it a family success, Jack Unsworth partnered Andrew Buchanan to the runner-up spot with 41 points. Third place was decided on countback with both teams on 40 points. John Day and Jeremy Twaits just edged out Chris Moore and Tony Glover.
Just to complete a special weekend, we had another hole-in-one today. This time from Sam Whiting at the 14th. Well done Sam - and thanks on behalf of everyone for the drinks !!!

  4. Mr Duck from Aylesbury says.........he is fed up repairing pitch marks on the greens. He feels that everyone playing must be asked to show a pitch mark repairer before being allowed on the course..

  6. if i may offer up some explaination as to the ladies extra shot allowance on the day. As i understand it and i may be wrong, this competition is normally played off the white tees and so the ladies would not normally receive further shots. However, the greenkeeper informed the competitions secretary prior to the draw that he would have difficulty preparing the white tees and the decision was then made to play off yellows and thus extra shot to ladies.
Nearer to the event it was found possible to use back tees in places and these were used to give the competition its due credibility.Unfortunately these decisions were late and didnt afford wholesale change to the published format. So on this occasion ,yes, the ladies probably did afford a little extra advantage but i dont think that should detract from the achievement of those who played well and duly won.
Hope this is a fair assessment of what happened, if not i stand to be corrected.
