Seniors - 30th March
Today's Seniors event was a Texas Scramble with three players to a team. In the Seniors Texas Scrambles, teams are drawn with one low, one medium, and one high handicapper to try and even the teams out as much as possible. As ususal, the scoring was very close and very competitive. Winners today were the team of John Day, Les Eden and Jan Hinks scoring nett 57.8 (gross 71). Runners-up were Rob Seaton, Sam Whiting and Gerry Eatwell with nett 59.2 (gross 69). Third place went to Brian Bailey, Lesley Cratchley and Richard Cross who scored nett 60 (gross 71).

Men's Roll-up - 27th March
Another good turn out despite a few of us having to play summer knock out matches. Many thanks to Nigel Huszarik for stepping in to organise on the day. His chosen format was a straight full handicap medal which was won by John Baron with a superb nett 64 off his 15 handicap which will be 14 next week!!! Second place went to Carl McCartney with 68, just edging Derrick Perrin out of the money with Jake 'the traitor' Chambers again putting in a good performance. No wonder this young lad is highly sought after by a number of Thursday Night League teams!!! Nice to see John Swallow join us for the first time and new member Ben returning for more punishment.

March Junior Medal
Seven Juniors took part in the March Junior Medal in sunny conditions but with quite a strong breeze blowing.
Some very good scores were recorded but 2 players were well ahead of the others and a close finish at the 18th saw Luke Bannister get home by one shot with an excellent net 61 just ahead of Chris Richardson net 62 with his first sub 80 round of 79 in competition.
Well done to all those who took part and by finishing 3rd Max Nicholls stayed in first place in the Masters Trophy as you can see from the link.

Men's Roll Up - 20th March
Not so many this week but enjoyable and competitive all the same. Dave Warwick came out on top with 36 points, just reward for playing with Tim last week!!! Mark Richardson was second on count back, again, unlucky Nobby. The pairs competition was won by Bob Stevenson and myself with an aggregate of 69, well done Bob. And congratulations to myself for taking less than ten on the 14th ... one day too late!!! Tees are booked from 9:38 this coming Sunday.

Carole Scott Cup
After a chilly start this morning, the Carole Scott Cup was played today on a beautiful spring day in glorious sunshine. Forty-eight players (35 men and 13 ladies) competed for the prizes in this annual strokeplay event.
Scoring was not as low as expected, but the clear winner today was senior Jim Green (9hcp) with a very good score of nett 67. His gross 76 was the equal lowest gross of the day (with Charlie Butler) and Jim receives a one shot cut to his handicap for that effort!!
The next three players on the leaderboard all scored nett 70, so countback was called into play to decide the placings. Runner-up was Andrew Buchanan (13hcp) whose back-six holes beat Carl McCartney (9hcp) by one shot. Fourth was Jack Unsworth (9hcp) who was looking a potential winner until a triple bogey at the 15th scuppered his chances. Top lady today was 5th placed Cilla Osgood (23hcp) with a nett 71.

Pace of play.
The average round time for today's competition was 3h:47m. All groups were under the 4-hour mark so not a bad effort. I didn't see any huge gaps between groups. Well done everyone - keep it up.

March Weekday Stableford
Another small field for the March Weekday Stableford which was played on Thu 17th and Fri 18th March. Maybe lighter evenings and better weather will encourage more players to compete in this monthly event.
This months winner was Gary Crosby (14hcp) with a score of 38 points. Runner-up was Wayne Arnold (8hcp) on 36 points followed by his dad Ron Arnold (17hcp) on 34 points.

Men's Roll Up
Sunday saw another successful men's roll up with thirteen players competing including new member 'Ben' and guests including old member Sam Bone. There was a four way tie for the individual prize with John Baron, recently back from injury, winning on count back from Mark Richardson, Sam Bone (DODGY NEW HANDICAP) and Jake Chambers fresh from his success in last week's medal. Cash or glory, Jake you'll learn!!! The draw for pairs saw some compensation for Sam as he drew Carl McCartney and their aggregate score was just enough to win the money. Same time next week ( 20th ) chaps.

MvLvSvJ
The annual match between Men, Ladies, Seniors and Juniors took place yesterday. Although basically a fun competition (non-qualifier), this is an important event in the calendar as it brings together all categories of players in the club in a friendly but still competitive competition.
The four best Stableford scores from each team are collated to provide the team score. Last year's winners, (the Men) just managed to retain the trophy but it was a very close run competition with the Seniors just being pipped at the post by a single point. The Ladies were beaten into third place with, unusually, the Juniors bringing up the rear. The highest individual score of the day was recorded by Fay Unsworth (38 points).
Thank-you to all who participated in this important club event.

Ladies vs Upavon
In the first match of the season, eight ladies from each club took part in a four ball better ball matchplay competition today, with the NRGC ladies team of Lorraine, Sandra, Sam, Sandy, Kim, Fay, Shey & I winning the match 3-1. Two of the games were tightly contested, one lost & one a good win, well done to Fay & Shey with a 4 & 2 win.

March Medal
The first of the season's stroke play medals was played today with the men back on the white tees. A bright, dry day but the course still offering a stiff challenge for the 43 competitors (35 men and 8 ladies).
Division 1
In the top bracket, Jimmy Green (7hcp) captured his first medal for two years with a nett 71, also carding the lowest gross of the day. Returning after a spell at The Grove was runner-up Mark Allen (10hcp) with nett 73. Third place was claimed by John Day (10hcp) with nett 75 just beating Nick Powell (10hcp) on countback.
Full result - click here.
Division 2
This months runaway winner was Nigel Huszarik (15hcp) with a fine nett 67, the lowest gross in the division and, at last, a handicap cut for Nigel!! A bit of déjà vu here ... the last time Nigel won a medal was when Jimmy Green won the Div 1 medal back in Mar 2009 (spooky!!). Runner-up was Club Captian John Graham (17hcp) who just beat Dean Butler (13hcp) on countback after both carded nett 73

Division 3
Another runaway winner in Div 3. This time it was newcomer Jake Chambers (22hcp) with an impressive nett 65. I don't think Jake will be staying long in this division !!! Runner-up was Aubrey Phillips (20hcp) with a nett 72. Third place was decided on countback with Bob Stevenson (20hcp) just ahead of Nick Turner (20hcp) both having scored nett 78.
Full result - click here.
Ladies
For the ladies, another good win for Cilla Osgood (23hcp) with nett 74. Runner-up was Sam Whiting (13hcp) with the lowest gross for the ladies and a nett 77. Sandra Chamberlain (18hcp) claimed third spot from Sandy Deacon (28hcp) on countback after both had scored nett 82.

Pace of play...
Thanks to all for putting your finish times on the scorecards. We will continue to do this for the near future, so that we can gauge how we are doing against targets. For info, the average time for this month's medal was 3h 51m. A couple of groups crept just over the 4-hour mark. A good start, but we still need to improve. Our target is max 3h 45m. Thanks for your cooperation.

Jim in the Final
By winning the August Medal last year, our very own Jim Purvis qualified to play in the BB&O matchplay KO.
Jim played one of the rounds at Datchet but has been lucky enough to play the other games at home.
The final was due to be played at Stoke Park in December but due to the bad weather, the other semi final was not played until the new year and as a result the venue for the final had to be changed.
Jim will now play the final at The Lambourne course on Thursday 17th March against a player from Ellesborough with a presentation lunch afterwards at Stoke park.
We really wish Jim all the best for his final match. Win or lose, it's a fantastic achievement to get this far in the competition. Well done Jim and Good Luck.

Seniors - Are You Ashamed ?!?
These were pictures taken after the seniors medal.
I was out first and the tees were 'virgin'. The damage was done during the medal.
PLEASE ... it only takes a few seconds to repair especially as there is a seed box on yellow and white short hole tees.
DON'T blame 'pay and play' when you don't act in the correct manner yourselves.
Chris Moore.

March Seniors Medal
Another good attendance for the Seniors medal this month with 40 players (33 men and 6 ladies) competing for the prizes. A bright day but scoring was obviously not easy as nobody in the field managed to break level par. Both men and ladies competitions were calculated as "Reductions Only".
In the Men's competition, Andrew Buchanan (13hcp) was top of the table this month winning his first Seniors medal for two years with a nett 72 and the lowest gross of the day 85. The runners-up spot was decided on countback with Malcolm Passey (14hcp) just beating Derrick Perrin (13hcp) after both had scored nett 74.
Full result - click here.
For the Ladies, Judy Willson (18hcp) cruised to her second successive Seniors medal with a nett 77. Runner-up was Linda Vale (22hcp) with a nett 81 followed by Sam Whiting (13hcp) on nett 83.

Sunday Roll-up
Last Sunday saw another good attendance for the men's roll up. After a sunny start the weather closed in and we played the last eight holes in wet conditions. However, the class of Jimmy Green shone through as he scored 21 points on the back nine to win the individual prize (including a bottle of wine donated by Mark Richardson ) with Jake Chambers and Mark Allen second. The team event was won by Jon Miller, Mark Richardson, Jake Chambers and his guest Mark (hopefully another new member secured! ). Obviously, no roll up this weekend due to racing and medal but following week - Sunday as usual.
