Seniors Fourball
The first seniors competition today on the new course layout. It was not a particularly nice day to appreciate it with lots of rain showers to contend with, but the seniors seem to have embraced the changes. When the new tees are in play and the other planned improvements and enhancements are there, it will be a good test of golf for all levels.
Today's competition was a fourball Stableford with fourteen pairings taking part. The course is playing long in the soft conditions, but that didn't prevent some excellent scores being returned.
The winning team today were Derrick Perrin & John Clark with an impressive 40pts (greatly helped by a couple of chip-in birdie two's by Nobby Clark!!). Runners-up were Chris Moore & Steve Vale who just pipped Malcolm Passey & Chris Piper on count-back after both teams scored 39pts. Full result - click here.

Last Hurrah - Result
A fantastic turn-out of 27 teams of three comprising of members, ex-members and visitors were welcomed to the final competition to be played on the existing layout of the course. The event was a team 123 Waltz Stableford.
A couple of special thank-you's are in order for today. To the green keepers Richard and Corado who have worked tirelessly this week in very trying weather conditions to get the course playable today albeit with the 10th playing as a temporary par 3. Also to the Wessex Club for their support today in providing refreshments from very early this morning until the end of the competition.
The weather was not ideal today with an early frost and some very chilly conditions throughout the day, but everyone turned up and completed their rounds.
The winning team with a total of 77pts were Jenny Bell, Doug Bell & John Eburne. Runners-up on the same score and just beaten on count-back were Chris Moore, Gary Moore & Tony Glover. Third place went to Roy Martinez, Ian Martinez & Mike Smith who just pipped Steve Simm, Aubrey Phillips & Scott Holland on count-back after both teams recorded 76pts. Nearest the pin prizes were won by Dean Butler and Maria Tillett.

February Medal - diary change
In the club diary the February Medal is listed as 1st Feb. As we are now having Presentation Evening on that day, the medal has been moved to the new date of Sunday 9th February. Please make a note of this in your diaries.
Seniors January Medal
Thirty-three seniors (29 men and 4 ladies) played in their January Medal last Wednesday in some quite pleasant weather for a change! Unfortunately, three holes were not playable due to standing water, so this Stableford competition was played as a non-qualifier over 15 holes with separate medal comps for men and ladies.
In the men's competition, the outright winner was Seniors Captain John Day with an impressive 33pts. The next three places were decided on count-back with Rod Spring just edging out Derrick Perrin and Geoff Denner after all three returned 30 points. Full result - click here.
For the ladies, Linda Vale was the victor, again on count-back from Liz Evans with both players scoring 25pts. Full result - click here.
Just a single two was recorded by Raymond Bilton at the 2nd hole, but he was not in the two's pool so it will roll over to the February Medal.

The Last Hurrah - Update
Due to the recent weather conditions, there is a possibility that all 18 holes may not be playable on the Sunday. The competition will still go ahead even if the number of holes has to be reduced and a decision on this will be made at the latest possible time. For this reason we are not publishing a draw with starting tees on.
The competition is a shotgun start at 09:00 and registration is in the clubhouse from 07:30 onwards where beverages and bacon rolls will be available to purchase. You will be given your starting tee when you register on the day.
Many thanks for you understanding and patience.

Seniors Bowmaker Stableford
Happy New Year to one and all!!!
After all the torrential rain we have had lately, I didn't really expect to be playing today but the course was very playable. There was some standing water on some low points on the fairways, but no temporary greens in play!
Today's competition for the seniors was a Bowmaker Stableford - teams of 3 with the best two scores counting. With a number of the regular seniors still absent after New Year celebrations(!), eight teams competed for the prizes. The winners with an excellent score in the conditions were Jim Green, Richard Cross & Colin Cox who amassed 73pts. Two points behind were runners-up Raymond Bilton, Harry Jackson & Ken Croucher. In third place on 66pts were Geoff Denner, Chris Piper & Gordon Turner just beating two other teams on count-back. Full result - click here.
