TEL - Final week

The 13th and final week of the Thursday Evening League was played today at Deanwood Park. I think it's the first time the league has been played that we haven't lost any weeks to inclement weather!!

Eight players took part this evening with the weekly winner being decided on count-back. Tim Page just pipped Jeremy Twaits after both registered 20pts. Dianne McIntyre was third on 18pts and Geoff Denner just one point further back.

The best 5 overall winner was in doubt right up to the end but 20pts for Jeremy Twaits this evening off a vastly reduced handicap sealed the victory on 99pts. Dianne McIntyre took second spot on 97pts closely followed by Mike Miller on 96pts.
As it is Olympic year, medals were presented to the top 3 plus some excellent prizes.

A huge thank-you must go to Dianne for not only playing every single week, but organising the starts, collecting fees, processing the scores (along with Jeremy) and organising all the prizes and medals. Well done Dianne!!

Winner - Jeremy Twaits
2nd - Dianne McIntyre
3rd - Mike Miller

TEL - Week12

Seven players for the penultimate week of the Thursday Evening League and the weather is still being kind - not one week missed so far. Hope I'm not tempting fate!!! This week's winner was Jeremy Twaits just edging out Dianne McIntyre on count-back after both scored 19pts. Tim Page (18pts) was third and Raymond Bilton (16pts) was in fourth place.

The overall Best5 competition could not be any closer. With his win this week, Jeremy has de-throned long time leader Mike Miller to go ahead by a single point. Dianne McIntyre is on the same score as Mike with a slightly lower average. Fair play to Dianne, she has played every single week!!! Is it too late for Rowland and Geoff? We will find out next week!!!

TEL - Week11

Eight players for this week's Evening League at Deanwood Park. With good scores come league handicap reductions but that still doesn't seem to stop more good scores being returned!! Rowland Barnfield was this week's winner with a massive 24pts. Runner-up Jeremy Twaits still managed 18pts off half his club handicap with Dianne McIntyre still scoring consistently in third place.

Just 2 weeks to go now before the season long best 5 ladder is decided. Mike Miller still holds a slender lead on 96pts closely followed by Jeremy Twaits, Dianne McIntyre, Rowland Barnfield & Geoff Denner. Too close to call at this stage!!!

TEL - Weeks 8 and 9

Sorry for the delay in reporting TEL on here. I've been out of commission for a while, but hopefully normal service will now be resumed!!!

Week 8 saw the return of Raymond Bilton to the weekly winner spot with a score of 20pts. Mike Miller and Geoff Denner were just one point further back.

Week 9 and Mike Miller has gone totally out of control with his score of 25pts!!!! Geoff Denner again was his nearest rival for the weekly prize but was a full 6pts off the pace!!

Needless to say, the Best 5 table now has a new leader with Mike Milller on 96pts. Jeremy Twaits and Dianne McIntyre are still in contention on 92pts each.

Tim Butler

I've got some exciting news about Tim Butler Golf.

From July 1st, I will be the new owner of the Driving Range at Newbury Racecourse.

As most will know the 10 bay driving range is located in the centre of the race track and has both a chipping and putting green to practice on also.
We can be found at RG14 7NZ and through the first set of gates you come to at Newbury Racecourse.

The entire facility is open to everyone and there is nothing I'd like to see more than you bringing your family and friends down and having fun at my driving range (safely though please 😉)
For those of you on Facebook and Twitter I have set up new groups to keep you up to date on all of the happenings and special offers in the coming months and I'd love it if you joined the groups and let me know what you think and also your thoughts on improving the current facility.

Follow us on Twitter here: @golfrangeNRC

The first thing I will be doing is adding a load of new range balls and throwing a load of the old ones away, I know you'll be as happy as I am about this!!

We are the only public place in Newbury to practice from grass or mats with a chipping and putting green right by the range. (I've converted the old 4th green to the new putting green and will be hand mowing to improve the surfaces as much as possible)

I've improved the value of the range balls too; you now get 40 balls for £2.

I'm also doing a special offer of four 60-minute golf lessons for the price of three.

So, what do you think?  Honestly, I am so excited (and nervous) but I'm sure with your help and support I can make this a great place to practice and learn golf.

I look forward to hearing from you and seeing you soon.

Best wishes, Tim

TEL - Week1

The Evening League finally got under way yesterday evening. This year it is being played on Thursdays and our thanks to Deanwood Park for allowing us to play the games on their course.
Like last year, it will be run as an individual Stableford over 9 holes each week. As we were a little late getting this off the ground, it will be  played over 12 or 13 weeks depending on weather and available light towards the end of the competition.
There is an individual prize for the best Stableford score each week and there will be prizes at the end of the competition for the best 5 aggregate scores.

Just 8 players for the first week, but we are expecting more to come along in subsequent weeks. This week's winner with a score of 18pts was Raymond Bilton who just edged out Jeremy Twaits on count-back.

THE FINAL HURRAH

Today was our last ever competition at the racecourse. A Texas Scramble with ten teams of 3 taking part. A massive thank-you to all those taking part today and supporting the club right to the end. Those who optimistically opted for shorts today might have regretted it a little with a chilly northerly breeze blowing, but no matter!!!

The winners today were Tim Page, Geoff Denner & Dianne McIntyre with a score of 57.0. Runners-up were Stuart Briginshaw, Harry Jackson & Jan Hinks (57.4) followed by Steve Cobb, Rowland Barnfield & Stephen Vale (58.0).

Winners - Geoff, Dianne & Tim

Afterwards, all the players gathered in Nuffield for the presentations and a buffet lunch. Thanks to all the organisers today for organising all the prizes, trophies and food.

Although golf has finished at the racecourse, this may not be the end of our special little club. As you know we intend to try and continue to get together a few times a year and play as a society at other clubs. Watch this space!!!

Lastly, a personal thank-you from me for your kind words and support today. It meant so much to me.

Adieu.

May Seniors Medal
