Sunday morning saw our first organised men's roll up for a few years. It was well attended by the men and along with welcome appearances from Steve Mitchell and old members guesting for the day in Sean Sargeant and Mark Allen, we had a friendly but competitive fourball better ball competition. The winners were Mark Richardson (same old faces I know) and new member Jake Chambers.
Many thanks to all those who attended and who have already pledged their support for future weeks. Hopefully something will be put on most Sundays (weather and available tee times permitting) so please if you want to join in, come along by 9.30 when the draw for partners will be made (promptly).
Sorry to offend other sections of the club but this is for the men's section only, unless otherwise sanctioned by the organisers, but guests will normally be permitted again at the organiser's discretion! Again many thanks to those who played and sorry Tim for being such a lousy partner!

I believe that a 'Winter League' Fourball or Foursomes would give a pupose to those who want to play on Sunday Mornings....It also ensures that all members mix on a competitive basis
ReplyDeleteno good if you want to play on Saturday, can't it be rotated?
ReplyDeleteChris, i think a league would require a higher level of commitment from those who want to take part and would probably exclude new members and the like who may come along in the future. Besides havent we got enough competitions?
ReplyDeleteAnonymous, yes i agree a sunday roll up is no good if you want to play on saturday. Seriously though, yes, this could be a possibility in the near future. If there is enough support. But at the moment i am inclined to see how things go on sundays first.
Any reactions to our efforts i am quite happy to discuss more personally by phone rather than this cumbersome blogging malarchy!!!
For a moment Jon, I thought you were in the 21st century !!!!!
ReplyDeleteWho is malarcy??
ReplyDeletenot who but what. Malarchy means something that generates a lot of work or fuss. The word originates from the prefix 'mal' meaning inappropriate and' archy' meaning 'form of rule '. If you're asking who is Malachi , then obviously he is a minor prophet c 5th century BC of the old testament a book of which bears his name. It rebukes the priests and people of Isreal for their neglect of religion. So endeth the lesson!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the lesson Jon, but the correct OED spelling is malarkey !!
ReplyDeleteOh sorry I thought I was on the NRGC blog!!!!
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know the Handicap allowance for the Pro's Texas Scramble on Jan 8th? Is it 1/5th or 1/10th?
Thanks to everybody who made me feel welcome on Sunday at my first roll up outing, thoroughly enjoyed it, thanks to partner Mark Richardson who showed me the ropes of competition style play. Is there a roll up this sun? Would like to make the most of my 28 handicap as hope to lower this! But as the money seems to come to those who achieve more points for higher handicap maybe I'll keep it!
ReplyDeleteMany thanks Jake chambers

Hi Tone,
ReplyDeleteJust to get back to golf (!!). For a four-person team Scramble it will be 1/10th (we use 1/5th for three-person teams). But Nick also makes some other adjustments for the pro's and scratch golfers who are playing. Best to check the details with him direct.
Hi Turbo
ReplyDeleteCheers for that mate,I will check in the Pro shop.
Jon who did we upset to get that draw in the December Medal!?!
