Astres Foursomes

Although quite chilly, today's Astres Foursomes was played in good conditions in a light south-easterly breeze. Twenty-four pairings teed it up to compete for the prizes.

Scoring was extremely close at the sharp end of the leaderboard with thirteen teams all within four points of the winning score. As you would expect with the field that tightly bunched the result had to be decided on countback. The top three teams all carded the same score of 39 points. The winners were Danny Glover & Mark France whose 20 points on the back 9 secured the victory. Runners-up were Astres specialists (winners for the last two years) Barry Heath & Geoff Denner. Third place went to luckless Andrew Buchanan and Lesley Cratchley whose back 6 score was not quite enough to get to second place.

Pace of play footnote.
The average time for today's rounds was 3hr 15min.
The committee will continue to monitor timings over the next few months and make all competitors aware of their responsibilities regarding pace of play. Thank-you for your patience and participation.

I agree that 3 and a half hours is an improvement, but having watched other groups while waiting on every shot on the back nine, it was clear that many players were not attempting to apply the correct 'art' of playing foursomes.

This format is acknowledged as the quickest form of golf if played correctly (less walking and walking forward) the times should have been at least 15 minutes quicker.
