Tuesday Evening League - W10

A glorious evening with warm sunshine and a light breeze for week 10 of the Tuesday Evening League and some excellent scores were recorded by the sixteen players who competed for the weekly prize and also trying to add to their Best 7 scores.
This week's prize winner by a narrow margin was Roy Martinez who recorded an excellent 22pts. Jason Allum and Stuart Briginshaw shared second place on 21pts closely followed by Dianne McIntyre on 20pts.
More players have now completed at least 7 scores, so the Best 7 table is starting to take shape. Dean Butler still holds a narrow lead over Dave Warwick and Dianne McIntyre. But there are still plenty of weeks for that to change a bit!!!

Club Championships

Club Championship weekend at the racecourse for both men and ladies with round one played on Saturday and the concluding round two played today. Steamy hot weather on Saturday was replaced by slightly cooler conditions today with a squally shower or two towards the end of the competition. Only a small field this year with many players away, but that doesn't diminish the achievements of the winners.
Special thanks to Richard Holmes and his team for preparing the course for the championships, a very early cut of the greens on both days and different pin positions on both days as well.

In the ladies competition, two steady rounds from Sam Whiting ensured that she captured the Ladies Club Champion title with a total of 178. Lady captain Sian Soanes was runner-up. In the ladies nett competition, Dianne McIntyre led after round one and continued her good form to the end to win the cup with rounds of 74 and 73.

In the men's competition after day one, three players were separated by a single stroke with Dave Warwick just ahead of Richard Mead and Jeremy Twaits. But it was Richard Mead who saved his best round for day two and became Club Champion with a second round 79 and a total of 160. Dave Warwick was runner-up just 3 strokes adrift.
There were two divisions in the nett competition. Richard also finished ahead in the division 1 nett standings but, as the rules say you cannot win both, the nett division 1 prize went to Dave Warwick with a total of 141. Jeremy Twaits was the runner-up. In division 2, Brian Grace was the round one leader but was overtaken on day 2 and the prize went to Mike Miller with a total of 161. Roy Whiting was runner-up on 163.

Seniors Stableford

Today's event for the seniors was an individual mixed Stableford with twenty five players (22 men and 3 ladies) taking part. Although the weather was dry and mostly warm, there was a strong south-westerly wind blowing across the course. However, this did not prevent some very good scores being returned.
The winner today had to be decided on count-back after Paul Tebbutt and Brian Grace both posted 40pts each but with a 24pt back nine, Paul Tebbutt just clinched it! In third place was Ted Fitzsimons with another excellent score of 38pts followed by Richard Aldred 2pts further back.
